Immaculate Room, New Gate, Old City (Jerusalem)

The Magnificat Institute is owned by the Custody of the Holy Land and it is hosted in some rooms of Saint Saviour Church. The President of the Marche Regional Council, Gian Mario Spacca, has visited the Institute verifying the old age and shortage of the rooms and has agreed to co-finance the project for the rebuilding of the Music Institute, as requested by the President of Magnificat, Father Armando Pierucci, and the Custodian of the Holy Land, Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa. With this project Region Marche, together with Adriatic Mediterranean, intends to promote dialogue and a peaceful living together among young people and families of different cultural and religious origins, by supporting the Magnificat Institute activities; to offer better study chances to an ever increasing number of students and teachers through the building of the Magnificat Music Institute new seat in Jerusalem. Jerusalem Magnificat Institute fosters the study of music and has a twofold function: it’s a place for dialogue and it’s a place for vocational guidance and training in the didactic and concert fields. The Institute is attended by 200 Muslim, Christian and Jew students, divided into nine different study courses (piano, violin, flute, organ, singing, composition, violoncello, choral music).

The protagonists of the 29th May event are Form (Marche Philharmonic Orchestra) and Yasmeen Chorus of the Magnificat Music Institute (Holy City) performing the Stabat Mater by Gian Battista Pergolesi (for the tercentennial anniversary of his birth) and traditional songs in Arab and Hebraic. For the occasion, three parts of the opera, written for soprano, mezzo-soprano and strings orchestra, will be executed by the Yasmeen Chorus: the Stabat Mater opening, Fac ut ardeat and the final Amen. Cinzia Pennesi will be the Orchestra Conductor, Hania Soudah Sabbara the chorus master, Stefania Donzelli the soprano, Elisabetta Lombardi the mezzo-soprano, Julia Semenova the piano accompanist.
